You might think you’re cool, but you’re not “living on the edge of the law at age 102” cool. Edie Simms is what one would call a bad-ass grandma because she just got arrested. On purpose.
Well, to be fair, she didn’t commit any crimes or anything like that. It’s just that getting handcuffed and put in the back of a police cruiser is something she’s always wanted to do. Her ride in the back of the squad car was an unusual reward for all the kindness Simms does for her local Senior Citizens Center. She regularly donates handmade items like socks, walker bags, eyeglass cases, pillows and scarves to the center’s members. As she was riding in the back of the squad car, Simms giddily held up her cuffed hands while passing a country police officer.
The St. Louis, Missouri Police Department probably never saw someone so happy to be arrested. When she was asked if she enjoyed her ride she responded with, “Oh yes, handcuffs and all.” The police drove Edie to the Senior Center she regularly donates her homemade goods to, so she could meet her adoring public in person. She also had some touching words for those who wanted to know how she kept up giving back to her community with such persistence.
“Keep going, don’t ever stop whatever it is you’re doing and spend some time doing community service because sometimes the person you reach out and touch, is the only person that they will talk to in a day.”
