They say everything is bigger and better in Texas. Austin, the state’s capital, sure does add some compelling arguments to that point. This city has a little bit of everything, and here are three reasons to put Austin at the top of your travel list. We’ll leave it to you to decide if it’s bigger and better!
Live Music Capital of the World
Austin has a well-earned reputation as the “Live Music Capital of the World”. The city has over 250 live music venues, with everything from blues and country to rock and indie. Don’t miss a night out on Sixth Street, where you can hop from bar to bar and catch some incredible local bands.
The Food Scene
The food scene in Austin rivals any big city scene. Start your day with breakfast tacos from Torchy’s Tacos or Veracruz All Natural—two local favorites. For lunch or dinner, Franklin Barbecue is a must-visit. We recommend the legendary smoked brisket (just be prepared to wait in line!).
Outdoor Activities
Lastly, Austin’s outdoor activities are one of its best-kept secrets. The city is crisscrossed with hiking and biking trails. And you’ll definitely want to spend some time at Zilker Park, a 350-acre urban oasis that’s perfect for picnics, kayaking on Lady Bird Lake, or catching a performance at the Zilker Hillside Theater.
