Nature is powerful, endless and incredibly surprising. Shepherds working in Russia found something pretty unreal. Apparently, the residents of the area reported having heard extremely loud rumblings in the middle of the night. When they woke up the next morning they couldn’t believe their eyes. There, in the middle of the village, there was a massive crater in the ground. They were all shocked and had no idea from where the crater came from. Imagination started running and people came up with funny conspiracy theories about the crater… Some blamed aliens!

Years have passed by and no one seemed to have an explanation. Today after long research, we have an answer. Apparently the crater was originated by the eruption of a pingo, a large embankment of ice covered by grass. Pingos erupt when the pressure of methane gas builds up due to rising temperatures. So this crater could be another effect of the global warming. One other weird thing: Pingos are usually filled with water, but this one was completely empty.

This is another proof that nature is still mostly unknown to us!
