Bangkok, The Best Street Food City in the World, Just Banned All Street Food

For those who have been to Bagkok, this will be a shock. What will people eat in Bangkok without all the street food? This city is one of the most iconic food spots on Earth. The Military Junta has been trying to get rid of the street food vendors for a long time even though most travelers consider it the heart and soul of Bangkok. The City Hall wants to bring “order and hygiene” to this city’s streets.

Bangkok’s governor’s chief advisor, Wanlop Suwandee, said: “There will be no let-up in this operation. Every street vendor will have to move out.” The vendors will move starting from June 1. In the past, the same thing has happened in Singapore. Even there, the government banned all street food carts in the 1950s. SOI 38, one of the most famous food streets in Bangkok was cleared out last year and in replacement of that, an expensive condos was built.

It’s not clear where all the vendors should move and the government didn’t offer any solution nor seems to care about it. Suwandee talked about it and said; “if they can find a place to set up their shop without obstructing the sidewalk…or some other private building.” This statement doesn’t explain much. We can only wait and see…
