Botswana is a landlocked country in southern Africa. It has extreme landscapes spanning across the country which change drastically depending on the season. Its vast wilderness and fascinating ecosystems mean that Botswana is one of the best places in the world to see some truly exceptional wildlife. It’s a popular destination for safaris, with certain areas standing out even more than the rest. Here are some of the top spots for seeing the most majestic, beautiful animals in the wild.
Okavango Delta
In the north of the country, you’ll find this immense river delta with grass plains. When this area floods as it does each year, the resulting ecosystem offers the perfect habitat for a range of fascinating creatures. With elephants, hippos, crocodiles, rhinos, and big cats roaming around it’s not surprising that this region holds UNESCO World Heritage status.
Chobe National Park
Also found in the north near the delta, this national park is based around the stunning Chobe River. This is one of the best places to see elephants in the wild, as several enormous herds are wandering the region. You’ll also find huge herds of cape buffalo, as well as lions, hippos, zebras, and many bird species.
Central Kalahari Game Reserve
This reserve is in central Botswana and is mostly grasslands which are home to giraffes, hyenas, wild dogs, cheetahs, and much more. There are also clay pans and fossil river valleys for some impressive natural phenomena.
