Tips That Will Help Every Over-Packer Travel Lighter

Going traveling but don’t want to lug around a heavy suitcase? Follow these tips to help reduce the hassle of traveling.

First off, one easy way to pack lightly is start off by using a small suitcase. If you have a big suitcase, you’ll feel obligated to fill it to the brim. Starting small will help to reduce how much you put in, ultimately making it weigh much less.

Second, wear your heaviest objects on the plane with you. If you’re going to colder climates, carry your heavy jacket on board the plane with you, or if you really want to bring your rain boots, wear them on the flight. These objects will otherwise take up unnecessary space in your suitcase. Even small things such as wearing your tennis shoes and packing your flip flops instead will reduce the weight of your luggage.

Be aware of what you’re packing ahead of time and decide if it’s the appropriate amount for your trip. Those who wait last minute to pack tend to over pack to prevent not bringing enough. Bringing an extra top or two is okay but packing a backup outfit for everyday is not probable if you’re trying to pack lightly.

Don’t be afraid to reuse items. Jeans can definitely be more than once and a different pair of shoes for each outfit are not necessary. Depending on how much they are worn each day, some tops can be mixed and matched between outfits. If it doesn’t work in multiple outfits, leave it at home.

Roll your clothes instead of folding them. By rolling your clothes, you are minimizing wrinkles and maximizing storage space – it’s a win win.
