If you are an Indiana Jones super fan, you might recognize the location of this rock. Many people recognize this rock as Petra, a rock that is famous both on screen and off screen. Petra was the set of “Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade.” On the screen, the place looks amazing but in real life is even more incredible. It is a towering ancient city which was carved into the cliffs. It dates back to 2,000 years ago and it still amazes visitors today.
Petra was carved into sandstone cliffs in huge proportions. It is breathtaking and the architecture is unique. Petra is located in Jordan, between the Red Sea and the Dead Sea.
Throughout history, people forgot about this place. Petra was lost to all for almost two thousand years. Only the locals stay there the whole time. It was found again by the rest of the world in the 1800s by a curious European.
Since then, it has been chosen as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. On top of that, in 2007 it was chosen as one of the new Seven Wonders of the World. The site appears in the Indiana Jones movie. In Indiana Jones, the actors are searching for the fabled Holy Grail.
Funny thing is that Petra was a thriving place during the lifetime of Jesus Christ, already well-established when he was born. Thus, this is a rare case of Hollywood getting it right. Maybe the Holy Grail was there for a brief time!
