Unlike its counterparts in tropical locations, the Utter Inn is a distinctly Scandinavian take on underwater accommodations.

The Utter Inn Hotel is the brainchild of local artist Mikael Genberg. He wanted to create an extraordinary hotel experience that would combine simplicity with innovation. The hotel features a single room, about 10 feet below the surface of Lake Mälaren, one of Sweden’s largest lakes. Accessible only by boat, this micro-hotel is as intimate as it gets. It accommodates just two people at a time.

Guests begin their adventure by boarding a boat that takes them out to the hotel’s pontoon. The deck is perfect for lounging and enjoying panoramic views of the lake and its surroundings during the day. As evening approaches, guests descend into their private underwater chamber. The room is surrounded by windows on all four sides, providing a 360-degree view of the underwater world. As dusk falls and the aquatic life becomes more active, guests can enjoy an up-close look at the lake’s ecosystem in action.
