Cyprus may be a pretty tiny island, but that’s not stopping it from being home to some pretty amazing cities. Ayia Napa, Nicosia, and Paphos are among the first that came to mind, but Larnaca deserves as much attention, and here are five reasons why it’s worth checking out.

Getting There

Even if Larnaca isn’t your final destination, chances are you’ll end up here because it’s home to one of Cyprus’ busiest airports – so why not take some time to explore it before resuming your journey?

Chill Atmosphere

You can also leave Larnaca for the end of your trip because it’s a great place to just chill out since it’s much more relaxing than some of Cyprus’ main tourist hubs.

Stunning Beaches

Larnaca may not be home to some of Cyprus’ most famous beaches, but most of them still have a blue-flag ranking, including Finikoudes, Mackenzie, and Kastella Beach.

Natural Wonders

Beaches aren’t the only natural wonder that Larnaca has in store. You should also consider taking a walk around the Larnaca Salt Lake and trying to spot flamingos if you’re there at the right time.

History & Culture

In addition to being home to many stunning beaches and a scenic seaside promenade, Larnaca will win you over with its rich history and culture, especially if you visit the Church of Saint Lazarus and the Larnaka Medieval Fort.

Cyprus is home to more beautiful beaches than we can count, and Ayia Napa happens to be home to some of the very best. It’s one of the most vibrant cities this Mediterranean island has in store, and here are three beaches that will make you fall in love with it.

Nissi Beach

Nissi Beach is one of the most recognizable attractions that Cyprus has in store, and it deserves all the attention coming its way. It will win you over with its golden sands and crystal-clean shallow waters, along with a tiny islet you can easily reach via a narrow strip of sand that connects it with the rest of the beach.

Makronissos Beach

If Nissi Beach is too busy and loud for your taste, you should check out Makronissos Beach, as well. Its golden sands and turquoise waters are equally magnificent, but the atmosphere is much quieter, while still offering several beach bars and a variety of water sports worth trying.

Konnos Bay

Konnos Beach is located on the outskirts of the Cape Greco National Park, and the surrounding lush greenery and rugged cliffs create a picturesque atmosphere. It offers a more secluded beach experience in comparison to the previous two beaches, while still providing all the same amenities.

Cyprus is a beautiful island in the Mediterranean Sea that can be a great destination for any time of the year. Its sandy beaches, beautiful landscapes, and rich history will leave you amazed. However, if you are planning to travel there anytime soon, there are some things you should know.

Cyprus is Divided into Two Parts

Cyprus is in a unique situation that you should take into consideration when planning your trip there. The country is divided into two parts, with Southern Cyprus being controlled by Greek Cypriots and Northern Cyprus being controlled by Turkish Cypriots. However, traveling between two parts of the country is possible, although Southern Cyprus is more popular with tourists. Additionally, you are required to leave the island from the part you arrived at.

U.S. Citizens Don’t Need Visa to Visit Cyprus

Cyprus is part of the European Union. This means that U.S. citizens don’t need a visa to visit the country. You need a passport that is valid for at least three more months and can stay up to 90 days for tourist purposes.

Everyone Drives on the Left

Cyprus was once under British rule and kept some of the customs and regulations from that time. This includes driving on the left side of the road, which is an important thing to keep in mind if you are renting a car. Also, keep in mind that roads in Cyprus are not in the best condition.

Following Local Etiquette and Customs is Appreciated

While Cyprus is an open and welcoming country, people here pay great attention to tradition, etiquette, and customs. If you are visiting places of worship like mosques or churches, it is important to be appropriately dressed. Additionally, drinking in public and loud and reckless behavior is frowned upon.

Weather Can Be Unpredictable

Cyprus has a lot of sunny days. However, the weather can often get unpredictable, with the sun giving away room to strong winds and rain showers. Make sure to account for this and pack a few warmer pieces of clothes alongside all the swimsuits.

From its golden beaches to its ancient ruins and its vibrant island life, Cyprus is an ideal vacation spot for thrill-seekers and those in search of rest and relaxation. If you’re looking for some excitement between your beach and spa visits, then here are some exciting things to do in Cyprus.

Tombs Of The Kings

Located in the city of Paphos, this UNESCO World Heritage Site is home to a network of underground tunnels leading to the tombs of wealthy families. These tombs are believed to have been used since the 4th century B.C., making them some of the oldest remains of ancient Cypriot civilization.

Fasouri Watermania Waterpark

If the tranquil waves of the Mediterranean Sea are not enough to get your adrenaline pumping, then the Fasouri Watermania Waterpark certainly will be. One of Europe’s top-rated waterparks, Fasouri offers attractions for the whole family, including obstacle courses, multiple slides, and paddle boats. The park is open from Tuesdays to Sundays from 10 am until 6 pm.

Kyrenia Castle

Built by Venetians in the 16th century, this fortress in Northern Cyprus was later occupied by the Ottomans. Included in this castle is a shipwreck museum and a chapel dedicated to St. George.
