Wherever you go in Istanbul, Turkey, the chances are that you’ll find something exciting and intriguing around the corner. The city is full of grandiose palaces, bustling bazaars, beautiful parks, and whatnot.

However, if you want to have a slightly different experience in Istanbul, one that not a lot of tourists get to experience, make sure to include these unusual attractions in your itinerary.

Anadolu Kavagi

Anadolu Kavagi is a small fishing village located on the northern end of Bosporus. The best way to get to it is to take a ferry. This way, you will enjoy the trip as much as you would at the destination. Once there, you can explore the old ruins and castles, have a relaxing walk into the surrounding hills, and later enjoy a meal in one of many fish restaurants.

Nakilbent Cistern

While not as popular as Basilica Cistern, Nakilbent Cistern is definitely worth a visit. Built in the sixth century, this Byzantine water tank consists of 18 marble columns and is exceptionally preserved considering its age. Best of all, the entry is completely free.

Miniaturk

Finally, if you don’t have enough time to visit all of Istanbul’s major tourist attractions, Miniaturk will allow you to check them out. One of the world’s largest miniature parks, Miniaturk contains miniature versions of Istanbul’s most popular landmarks as well as various historic structures from all across Turkey and territories that once belonged to the Ottoman Empire.
