]]>Begin this trail in the small village of Poncebos, in the province of Asturias. Although this trail is only about 16 miles each way, the terrain can be challenging, so you will want to make sure that you are well-equipped with quality hiking shoes, snacks, and water. If in doubt, book a guide who will help you through the ravines, gorges, and mountain paths that you must cross to complete this hike.
As you move further along the trail, you will enter the Cares Gorge, otherwise known as ‘the Divine Gorge’ for its stunning beauty. Be careful as the ledge you are walking along will get narrow, and the drop-down is steep. However, when you’re resting, make sure to take in the stunning views and impressive scenery.
Your hike will end in the village of Caín, in the province of León. It is a good idea to stop here overnight, as there are plenty of places to stay in the village, and as the hike takes on average 8 hours, most people cannot make it back to Poncebos within one day. The best times of year to do this hike are in May and June, as during the high summer months the trail can become very busy.
