Europe’s Schengen area is renowned for its Schengen visa that enables you to travel seamlessly from one member state to another. Six Middle Eastern Gulf nations banded together to create a similar visa, enabling you to enjoy a multinational Middle Eastern adventure. Here is what you need to know about this multi-nation visa ahead of its launch.

The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), namely the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, and Qatar, came together to discuss the creation of a joint tourist visa, allowing cross-border travel for tourists between each nation.

In November 2023, the GCC’s president Sayyed Hamoud bin Faisal Al Busaidi announced that the council had agreed on the joint visa. While a date for its launch has not yet been confirmed, it’s expected for the visa to be offered later this year or perhaps in early 2025.

Currently, each GCC member holds different visa requirements. While Kuwait and Qatar offer US citizens a free visa on arrival, Saudi Arabia commands an application fee of $128. Bahrain and Oman also offer a free visa however this is only valid for two weeks. With a joint visa, you’ll be able to travel freely between each country without worrying about varying visa conditions.
