Many cruise workers use the opportunity of being completely disconnected from their everyday lives to pursue relationships outside of their on-land marriages or even come out of the closet only while they are aboard.

Lastly, there is a strict rule that cruise ship workers are not allowed to hook up with guests and any form of these inappropriate interactions can result in immediate disposal of someone from the cruise line. This is mostly in order to restrict any allegations of sexual violence or other charges against the cruise line.
