Which is the Healthier Travel Snack, Almonds or Peanuts?

on

Almonds and peanuts are two of the most popular nuts around. They are constantly used in a variety of recipes such as almond crusted fish or pad Thai with peanut sauce. They are also found in many brands of candy such as Reeseā€™s Peanut Butter Cups and Almond Joy. Along with this, they are recommended to eat as a snack by themselves as they are very nutrient and protein dense. There are many people who use peanut and almond products on a daily basis and recently, there has been a switch from the use of peanut butter to almond butter due to health reasons. So, this begs the question on if almonds are actually healthier to eat than peanuts. And simply put, the answer is yes.

Peanuts and almonds are still both healthy. However, they are both very caloric for the small amount of nuts allotted in a single serving size. Same with the nut butters, all natural almond butter is around 94 calories per tablespoon while a tablespoon of peanut butter is about 94 calories as well. In order to combat the large amounts of calories per serving of these nut butters, different brands have begun to produce powdered versions of almond butter and peanut butter at about 45 calories per 2 tablespoons. So, with all of these options available, why choose almonds over peanuts? The answer as to why almonds are technically a healthier choice is pretty simple. Almonds and peanuts have the same amount of total fat, while peanuts contain more saturated fat. However, both nuts are good for you in small and portioned quantities.
