Want to experience the Ancient Roman amphitheater Colosseum in a way no tourist has experienced before? Well, now you can, thanks to Airbnb.
The rental platform has recently added a new “experience” to its Icons lineup that will see a lucky few walking the steps of gladiators and taking part in the first gladiator fight, albeit staged, at the site in almost 2,000 years.
The experience, which is tied to the promotion of the new epic flick Gladiator II, will take place from May 7 to 8, 2025, and can be booked on Airbnb starting November 27 free of charge. The platform will choose two lucky winners who will be able to bring along up to 16 guests each.
The selected guests will get an opportunity to visit the underground chambers known as the Hypogeum, where gladiators prepared for battles, equip gladiator armor and weapons, walk the tunnels of the Colosseum, and emerge on a center stage that will feature a showdown of seasoned warriors. After undergoing training, the guests will get to test their own battle skills.
The offering is dubbed as Colosseum’s return to its original purpose of being used for live performances. It will also see Airbnb making a $1.5 million donation to the Colosseum in favor of restoration efforts and educational programs.
Airbnb previously offered similar exciting experiences to travelers, including staying at Paris’ Musée d’Orsay, Prince’s “Purple Rain” mansion, and more.
