This charming city in Alsace reflects its varied past through its culinary culture and architecture which combine Swiss, German, and French influences. Don’t miss the city’s stunning cathedral, and make sure you try the local delicacy of flammekueche or tarte flambée, which can be described as an Alsace take on pizza.

Biarritz, France

This charming area of France was selected by Napoleon as the place to build his summer home, and it’s easy to see why. The weather is generally warm and sunny, there is plenty of coastline to explore, and the cuisine combines the best of French and Spanish cooking. Take the train from London to Paris, and then get to Biarritz via Bordeaux. In total, the journey will take around nine hours, although the quickest trains will take you there in just under eight.

Lyon, France

This vibrant French city is a great one to visit with kids. You can get there in just under five hours from London, traveling via Paris.
