on

When taking a trip to the Caribbean, make sure to schedule some time in the capital of Aruba, Oranjestad. The island is an autonomous member of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, with Oranjestad meaning “orange city” in Dutch. It is just one of the indications that it is a colorful city.

Dutch Influence

Aruba has been in Dutch hands since the 1600s and Oranjestad features many charming buildings showcasing Dutch colonial architecture. Visit the UNESCO-recognised Fort Zoutman, which is the oldest structure in the country, as well as the Willem III Tower which offers stunning panoramic views.

Wild Waters

Crystal-clear turquoise waters surround Oranjestad, offering diving enthusiasts the opportunity to explore. Colorful coral reefs and tropical fish will greet snorkelers, while those looking for something more leisurely can take a sailing trip or spend time on Eagle Beach.

A Taste for Life

If you love to shop, Oranjestad is the place for you! There are dozens of duty-free shops, luxury boutiques, and local markets to explore. Like most Caribbean countries, Aruba takes part in Carnaval where days are dedicated to singing and dancing. Be sure to also try some of the local cuisines like keshi yena and galiña stoba.
