Celebrities are a very unique type of people. Everything they do is exposed to all, and sometimes, it doesn’t really go hand to hand with their personalities. Some of them love being spotted everywhere they go, taking pictures with fans, and stopping for the paparazzi, but others, well, thats a different story.
Sometimes people can’t handle all the things that come with the celebrity status, and simply disappear from the face of the earth. Here are just a few big Hollywood starts that just vanished from the spotlight:

• Nick Stahl

• At the early age of 13, Stahl starred in “The Man Without A Face” with Mel Gibson, and became one of the most successful child actors in Hollywood. In 2003, Stahl starred as “John Connor” in “Terminator 3”, opposite Arnold Schwarzenegger and Claire Danes. His career was on the rise, when suddenly, he started to lose his focus. He struggled with drugs and alcohol addiction for years, and was even declared missing for a few days in 2012. On June 28,2013, Stahl was taken into custody for alleged substance abuse. His last known acting credits are 2 episodes of “Body of Proof” in 2012.

• Rick Moranis

• Moranis was one of the most successful actors of the 80’s. He starred in classic movies like: Ghostbusters, Little Shot of Horrors, Spaceballs, Honey, I Shrunk The Kids, and The Flintstones, and released 3 studio albums.
  In 1997 Moranis quit acting to take care of his children, after his wife died of breast cancer. “I’m a single parent and I just found that it was too difficult to manage raising my kids and doing the traveling involved in making movies. So I took a little bit of a break. And the little bit of a break turned into a longer break, and then I found that I really didn’t miss it.”

• Jason Mewes

• During the 90’s Jason Mewes was one of the most recognised cult actors in Hollywood. He starred in many Kevin Smith movies such as “Clerks”, “Mallrats” & “Dogma”. After filming “Mallrats”, Mewes became addicted to heroin. In 1999, A warrant for his arrest was issues by the police, which caused Mewes to disappear off the grid. For many years, Mewes whereabouts were unknown, causing people to believe he died alone from an overdose. After his mother’s death in 2002, Mewes resurfaced and turned himself in to police officers in New Jersey.

• Margot Kidder

• The Canadian actress is probably best known for her role as Lois Lane in the first “Superman” movie. Through the years, Kidder’s been very open about her struggle with bipolar disorder. Her worst episode occurred in 1996, when her manager reported her missing after she missed a flight. She was found four days later in the bushes of a Los Angeles residential building, wearing ragged clothes and covered in bruises. Police officers described her state as “hysterical”. In 2007, Kidder stated that her mental health was never better, and that her last episode occurred 11 years ago.

• Mara Wilson

• Mara Wilson was one of the most successful child actors of the 90’s, Best known for playing “Matilda”. Mara quit acting not long after that, saying: “Acting is not very fun. Doing the same thing over and over again until, in the director’s eyes, you ‘get it right,’ does not allow for very much creative freedom”

• Macaulay Culkin

• Caulking, started out in small family movies, until he got his big break in “Home Alone”. Overnight, Culkin became one of the most recognisable kids on the planet.
  With more than 8 blockbuster movies on his resume, Macaulay decided to take a break from acting.
  Now, he is busy playing with his band “The Pizza Underground”, and dating the “All My Children” actress Jordan Lane Price.

• Mischa Barton

• After starring in the critically acclaimed “The Sixth Sense”, and “Lost and Delirious”, Mischa joined the hit teen drama “The O.C.”. After 3 season on the show, Mischa decided to leave and focus on her film career. After her departure, Mischa’s career took a turn to the worse, her movies flopped at the box office, and she started to suffer from a series of legal problems, resulting in two misdemeanours and DUI charges.

• Dave Chappelle

• Dave Chappelle was one of the most successful comedians of the early 00’s. After finishing his most successful year in show business, Chappelle decided to leave everything and take a trip to South Africa. “Coming here, i don’t have the distractions of fame”, he said, “It quiets the ego down. I’m interested in the kind of person i’ve got to become. I want to be well rounded and the industry is a place of extremes”.
