e 27 Year Old Queen From Bhutan

Typically, when one mentions “the Queen”, people picture the Queen of England in the pastel, jeweled suits, interesting hats, or the Buckingham palace. Likewise, when one mentions anything about a royal family, people are inclined to think directly of the British royal family. However, there are many more kingdoms and therefore, many more royals than you may have known about in the past. Some of these other royal families even hold the titles for various things. For example, Her Majesty, Jetsun Pema Wangchuck of Bhutan, is the world’s youngest queen.

This impressive woman studied art history, international relations, and psychology at Regent’s College in London prior to returning to Bhutan to be married to His Majesty, Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck, at just 21 years old.  The king, who is about 10 years older than the queen has stated that he waited to be married. In a statement about his decision, he said;  “I have been waiting for quite some time to get married. But it doesn’t matter when you get married as long as it is to the right person. I am certain I am married to the right person.”

Continuing the royal family, the king and queen had their first child, a son, in February of 2016. Some say that this little prince rivals George in cuteness. And while enjoying life as a beautiful and young family, Her Majesty still finds time to be philanthropic as well. She is a part of Bhutan’s Red Cross Society among other charitable organizations.
