Stunning archeological sites are scattered all around Egypt, but none of them compares to the Great Pyramid of Giza. It’s one of the seven wonders of the ancient world that everyone should check out at least once in a lifetime, and you can make the best of your visit by avoiding these five common mistakes.

Going Without a Guide

Exploring the Giza pyramids on your own is possible, but it’s not highly recommended, and it’s much better to go there with an experienced guide who can help you navigate the site.

Late Arrival

The Giza Pyramid complex is one of those attractions you can spend the whole day exploring, so it’s important to get there as early as possible.

No Sun Protection

You’ll probably be exposed to the sun for the entirety of your visit to Giza, so it’s important to pack sunscreen, sunglasses, and a hat, and stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water.

Just Staying Outside

The Giza pyramids are a sight to behold even if you just see them from the outside, but you shouldn’t overlook their interior unless you’re too claustrophobic to step inside.

Tourist Traps

Like most of the world’s top attractions, The Great Pyramid of Giza is plagued with tourist traps. From overpriced camel rides and souvenirs to “professional” photos you don’t really need, there are many tourist traps you’ll have to dodge to have a good experience.

Welcome to Egypt, a place where every meal tells a story and every dish invites you on a flavor adventure. Egyptian cuisine is as rich and diverse as its history and some of the food you try might be just as memorable as seeing the pyramids! So if you’re planning a trip to this beautiful country, here are some dishes you won’t want to miss.

Koshari

Often considered the national dish of Egypt, Koshari is a hearty and affordable street food. It combines rice, lentils, macaroni, and chickpeas, topped with a spicy tomato sauce and crispy fried onions. It’s a delicious mix of textures and flavors that showcases the diverse influences on Egyptian cuisine.

Ful Medames

This staple dish is made from fava beans cooked with oil and lemon juice, typically seasoned with garlic and spices, and served with bread. Ful medames is a common breakfast dish but you can enjoy it any time of the day. It’s nutritious, filling, and found almost everywhere in Egypt.

Ta’ameya (Egyptian Falafel)

While falafel is popular throughout the Middle East, Egyptian ta’ameya is unique because it’s made primarily from fava beans instead of chickpeas. These are mixed with herbs and spices, then fried until crispy. Ta’ameya is usually served in a pita with vegetables and tahini sauce.

The Great Pyramid of Giza is the first place that comes to mind when someone mentions pyramids, but did you know there are many similar sites in Egypt? Get ready to embark on an epic quest for Egyptian pyramids in these three amazing spots.

Pyramid of Djoser

Known by the nickname Step Pyramid of Djoser, this archeological site in Saqqara is often considered the world’s oldest large-scale, cut-stone construction. This pyramid complex was closed to visitors for 14 years before finally reopening its doors in 2020, and it offers an interesting look into the history of the ancient Egyptian capital, Memphis.

Red Pyramid

Located in Dahshur, about 40 kilometers south of Cairo, the Red Pyramid became quite a sensation thanks to its distinct color. It’s believed that it was the first successful smooth-sided pyramid, and it was initially lined with white Tura limestone, but its reddish color was revealed after the limestone was taken to Cairo to be used in construction.

Bent Pyramid

Another stunning pyramid complex located at the royal necropolis of Dahshur, Bent Pyramid impressed historians with its irregular shape. It was built during Pharaoh Sneferu’s rule, and its shallow angles were supposed to prevent its possible collapse.
