Uruguay is the first country in the world to legally sell marijuana for recreational use. It took more than three years for the country to implement the entire recreational marijuana trade even after it became legal in the country. Canabis is now being sold at pharmacies.
The weed is being sold for $1.30 a gram, which is extremely cheap. The reason that the government made this so cheap is because they think that they will be able to undercut the black market.
As exciting as this sounds, sales will only be restricted to residents of the country. So either make a friend who lives in Uruguay or move there yourself. Weed buyers must be 18 and older and must register with the government’s Institute for the Regulation and Control of Cannabis.
When registered users go to purchase cannabis, their fingerprints are scanned, this reveals how much they’ve bought at any of the 16 pharmacies that sell marijuana in the country. This is because registered users are only allowed to buy 40 grams of weed a month. There are only two companies that grow cannabis allowed by the government. People have the option of purchasing Alpha 1, which is an indica or Beta 1, which is a sativa. Each type only had 2% THC, though.
