We’ve reached that time of the year when trend predictions are popping up everywhere, and it was just a matter of time before Pinterest shared its own. Its 2025 trend forecast covers everything from beauty and fashion to food and tourism, where “peak travel” emerged as the top trend of the year.

What is this rising travel craze all about, and should you give it a shot in 2025?

“Peak travel” is basically Pinterest’s fancy term for mountain travel. According to their press release, “mountain ranges will become the go-to travel destination as Gen Z and Gen X seek out treetop views and that fresh mountain air” in 2025, so it’s time to “gear up for your next elevacation.”

Pinterest decided to highlight this trend after several mountain ranges from around the world experienced a spike in searches on this platform. The Portillo ski resort in Chile is the most popular mountain destination among Pinterest users, but it’s closely followed by the Dolomites in Italy and the Atlas Mountains in North Africa.

Skiing will be a major part of the “peak” holidays in 2025, judging by Pinterest’s searches, and the way you dress for your mountain escapades will make all the difference. “Skiing fits” is one of the most-searched terms under this category, along with “mountain trip outfits”.

Mount Everest is famous as the tallest mountain in the world, attracting adventurers and thrill-seekers from every corner of the globe. But beyond its towering height, there are some lesser-known facts about this epic mountain that you might not know. Here are a few tidbits that reveal there’s more to Everest than just being the world’s highest peak. Up for a climb?

Work in Progress

Did you know that Mount Everest hasn’t finished growing yet? Yep, it’s still getting 1 inch taller annually. The reason: tectonic activity. In fact, this nonstop growth over the course of millions of years is what formed the Himalayas.

Summitted Over 7,000 Times

While Mount Everest is incredibly tall, looking down on all of us from its 29,032-foot peak, quite a few ambitious souls have made it to the top. In fact, more than 7,000 people have (literally) risen to the challenge and summited it so far; and counting.

A Mountain of Many Names

Why should such an epic mountain have only one name? Mount Everest has multiple. Nepalis call it Sagarmartha, literally meaning “peak of heaven,” while Tibetans call it Chomolungma, which means “goddess of the valley.” Sounds about right.

Whether you’re seeking fun in the sun on a city break, or want some peace and quiet in the mountains, you’re sure to find some destination inspiration here.

Dinaric Alps, Serbia

Often overlooked in favor of more popular mountainous regions in France, Italy and Spain, Serbia offers some truly stunning mountain scenery, with far fewer tourists. Head to the village of Topli which serves as the base for many mountain hikes, ranging in difficulty from beginner to advanced.

Vilnius, Lithuania

The capital of Lithuania is packed full of stunning streets, amazing museums and brilliant places to eat and drink. Head to the old town to enjoy some traditional and beautiful architecture, and don’t miss climbing to the top of the hill fortress with the Gediminas Tower on top, for stunning views out over the city.

Galician Coast, Spain

Galicia is comparatively quiet when you look at the levels of tourism across the rest of Spain. While you won’t be guaranteed the scorching summer temperatures that the southern Spanish coast gets in summer, you can be sure of seeing some truly beautiful beaches with very few people on them!
