]]>As a fabric, linen lends itself well to simple, clean cuts. Look for a linen dress with an easy fastening and a timeless cut, as this is the kind of frock which you will wear for many summers to come.
If linen pants feel a little too ‘office wear’, why not treat yourself to some linen shorts for your vacation? A pair in white will feel particularly apt for a week spent in the sun, and will mix and match with almost everything in your wardrobe.
It’s essential to pack at least some long-sleeved items in your suitcase, for chilly evenings and any events that might require you to cover up. A linen shirt is ideal, offering just enough warmth without being too thick or heavy. A classic white shirt is always an option, or mix it up with a striped pattern which feels pleasingly nautical.

]]>It’s hard to deny the appeal of white or cream shoes in summer – they just feel so much more casual and relaxed than black styles. Opt for a classic loafer style which you can pair with wide-legged pants, a mini skirt, or the breeziest summer dress to give you plenty of versatile options.
Ballet pumps are ideal for wearing on holiday. Light, casual, and easy to slip on and off, you’ll barely notice these once they’re packed into your case. It helps that these shoes are also having a serious fashion moment, so you can rest easy knowing that no matter how you style them, you’ll be ticking all of the trend boxes.
For the more bold and daring, mesh flat shoes are also big news this year. If you’re vacationing somewhere hot, mesh shoes may be the perfect option as they will allow your feet to stay cool, while looking super on-trend.

]]>Anyone who has dyed their hair blonde can tell you that chlorinated water can result in an unexpected green tinge. Even if your hair is entirely natural, chlorine can dry hair out and leave it looking frizzy and dull. It may be worth packing a swimming cap to take with you on vacation, or at least make sure that you have a nourishing, protecting hair mask to apply after your dips in the pool.
There are plenty of options out there if you want to protect your hair from the drying, and bleaching effects of UV exposure. Pack a spray with UV protection to take with you on vacation, and spritz it over your strands whenever you know you’re going to be spending a lot of time outside in the sun.
There’s no doubt that spending time in a pool, in the sun, or in the sea can lead to increased dryness and breakage. Rather than booking your next trim just before you head off on vacation, why not try a post-holiday haircut? A trim and tidy-up will restore your hair to full health and remove any damage caused by the pool, sea, or sun.

]]>In the winter months, the county of Northumberland can be windswept and stormy, and it certainly gets its fair share of wild weather in the summer months, too! However, if you catch Beadnell Bay on a good day, you will be treated to an expanse of pristine sand, stunning water to swim in, and beautiful surroundings.
This long, expansive beach is very popular, so you’ll need to arrive early on a warm summer’s day. There are plenty of facilities, including cafes and bars, and the water is particularly good for swimming in. As the parking prices are quite considerable, you may want to consider spending the whole day here to make it worth it.
Like Northumberland, the northern tip of Wales gets a decent amount of wind, rain, and storms. The stunning Newborough beach looks beautiful in all weathers, although you probably need to be quite hardy to swim in the cold waters! Keep an eye out for wildlife, including pods of dolphins which regularly pass by.

]]>It’s a well-known fact that prices of flights, hotels, and hostels rise in line with demand. Getting away from it all in high season (which typically means June through to August in the northern hemisphere) can cost you significantly more than an early spring or fall break, so if budget is a concern wait until September or October before booking that trip away.
Tourist hotspots across Europe can become uncomfortably crowded during the summer months. Whether you’re trying to get a gondola ride in Venice, climb to the top of the Eiffel Tower, bag a spot on a Greek beach, or wander the streets of London, anywhere that’s popular and beautiful is likely to become overcrowded during a summer vacation. However, if you visit these same destinations in the fall, you are likely to find far fewer visitors, leading to a more relaxed vacation.
Over recent summers, temperatures in parts of Italy and Greece have become dangerously hot, leading to wildfires across several regions. These temperatures are not only dangerous, they can be incredibly disruptive to your trip. By visiting warmer climates in the fall, you can avoid uncomfortable heat and the disruption it causes.

Realistically, when you think about it, what’s so great about the beach? You get there, have no shade, are sweating so much that there’s no way of making yourself look cute, and have sand covering every inch of your body. Okay, we may be exaggerating a bit here, but we think that everyone should take a minute and realize that there is more to do this summer than go to the beach. We’re here to give you five great beach substitutions which will make your summer feel totally fulfilled.
1) Travel- Even if you cannot afford to take an exotic vacation right now, there are many other ways to enjoy traveling. Go camping, go on a road trip with your friends and stay at various hostels and motels, or even go to a friend’s house by the lake. This way you will experience a change of scenery and won’t feel stuck at home all summer.
2) Go to a concert- Concerts aren’t all about knowing the music- especially in the summer. Although we obviously also suggest checking out your favorite band’s tour dates, you can just go to a concert simply for the experience. During the summer there are tons of huge festivals with food and activities so if the music is weird techno rave style, you don’t even have to listen to it in order to have fun. During the summer, artists play in amazing locations that will enhance your concert-going experience.
3) Visit your friends from college- People always say that it’s hard to fully know someone if you have never experienced their home life with them. In the case of college friends, we aren’t saying you aren’t as close as can be, but there is a difference between seeing your friend in your dorm room or sorority house and seeing them interact with their family and home friends. Plan a trip with a few other college friends to visit a friend whose house you have never been to. Have her take you on a tour of her hometown and maybe even some of her high school parties and just view her life from a whole new perspective.
4) Sleep- Okay, so obviously don’t do this one every single day- because that’s a waste of your time. That being said, something that is so special about the summer is that you can sleep in sometimes without having to wake up for class or hearing your roommate’s loud alarm. Sleep in, watch some Netflix in bed, and relax.
5) Museums- We know how boring this may sound but a lot of museums have really cool exhibits during the summer. Check out museums near you and find out if they have modern art, or even fashion displays. If you don’t enjoy yourself, at least you can get a cute Instagram.
We hope that you think about this list the next time you’re about to settle on “beaching.”
