The Catacombs Are the Scariest Place in Paris

on

When we think about Paris, we picture the city of lights, the monuments, and museums, the baguette or the croissant, the fashion and culture, the lively nightlife.

We don’t think this city has sketchy places, however, underneath the city, there’s a scary surprise. We are talking about the Paris Catacombs: a series of old caves, tunnels, and quarries stretching hundreds of miles. Not many people tend to think of these caves when they think of Paris, but they are definitley worth visiting. These caves are extremely unique and not super well known to tourists.

Not only the place is dark, but it is also full of old bones of dead people. Only a small section is open to the public. This section is called Denfert-Rochereau Ossuary or “The Catacombs.”

Because of its peculiarity, it has become one of the top tourist attractions of the city. Don’t go there if you are not brave enough, you might get a bit too scared! If you are into it, make sure you book your ticket ahead to avoid long lines.

Otherwise, if you are not so sure, focus on the typical beauties of the city: the Louvre, the Eiffel Tower, Champs-Élysées and many more, which are also very iconic places to visit. Also, if you’re traveling with kids, we highly suggest avoiding that stop… It might be too much for them and probably too scary for you as well! Instead, if you are one of the ultra brave ones… enjoy the tour!
