The UK is a super popular travel destination for people all around the world. While it may be small, there is an exciting range of attractions on offer, from beautiful landscapes to buzzing towns and cities. Bristol is a city in the southwest located on the River Avon and is a popular place to live or visit. Here are just three reasons to plan a trip there.

The Harborside

Having a waterside area in a big city is perfect, as it creates a special space that is perfect to chill out in. There are plenty of restaurants and bars, as well as incredible galleries and museums to explore, or you can simply wander along by the water and watch the boats bobbing around.

The Nightlife

Bristol has a unique culture and atmosphere, and a big aspect of its identity is the exciting and varied nightlife. Whether you want to head to a cozy folk music gig, a standup comedy performance, or an intense dub and techno rave, there will be something to entertain all tastes.

The Downs

As well as the water, something that makes Bristol stand out is the Downs. Based in the hilly area of Clifton, this sprawling green space is perfect to head to for a relaxing stroll or picnic. You can walk across the incredible suspension bridge which looks down on the River Avon and from there access the huge Ashton Court and Leigh Woods where you will forget you are even in a city at all.

There are so many different ways to travel and explore the world. A popular choice to see the sights in an area is a road trip, and many people choose to do this in their own country or to head abroad and hire a vehicle. Either way, this is an exciting thing to embark on, and proper preparation helps to make it as fun as possible. Here’s how to plan the perfect road trip.

Research Places You Want to Stop

It’s up to you how to do this, but it’s a good idea to do some research so that you know where you would like to stop. Maybe you can identify your start and end points and find some exciting spots along the way to stop and take a break.

Work Out a Priority List

Once you have an idea of places you may want to stop, it can be super helpful to decide on what level of priority each place has. Road trips can be very changeable and it’s good to be open to spontaneity, so if you have some places that you won’t be too sad if you miss then it allows for plans to adapt.

Always Listen to Your Body

Having a plan and a structure can help you to make the most out of your trip, but it’s always crucial to listen to your body above all, and if you start to feel tired and in need of rest then it’s better to respect this and stop to take a break.

When packing for a traveling trip there is so much to consider. You’ll need to carefully choose clothing and footwear suitable for your trip, as well as extras such as toiletries, books, and accessories. An extra item you can easily include is a pack of playing cards. Here are some reasons why it’s a great idea to pack this item.

An Easy Way to Socialize

Meeting people while traveling is exciting, but there can be various restrictions when it comes to socializing. For example, language barriers can make communication challenging, especially in a group with people from different places and backgrounds. Having a simple card game to play is the perfect icebreaker and can work well even if there are language barriers.

Transportable Entertainment

A pack of cards is super small and easy to pop into a bag or pocket to bring with you. This is perfect when traveling, as you will have some fun games wherever you go and can take them on public transport to play with your fellow travelers.

Can Learn New Games

Loads of people you meet will have card games that you’ve never heard of. It will be a lovely way to bond with other people by showing each other the games you know. This will be a great souvenir to bring back with you as well and you can teach the new games to your friends and family at home.

When heading abroad there are various options for how to get there. Plane travel is popular for its convenience for long-distance destinations. Other than this, some trains get you to other countries, or you can travel by ferry. Traveling by ferry can be a lovely way to cross the sea, but can take a little while. Here are some helpful things to keep in mind before an overnight ferry trip.

It May be Worth Paying for a Cabin

Often overnight ferries offer a private cabin for a cost, or a chair in the sleeping lounge for much less. It’s good to think carefully about whether it’s worth paying the price. If you are someone who can sleep well anywhere then the lounge chair should be fine, but many people find they are unable to sleep well there and would rather pay for a room and a bed.

Consider Bringing Food With You

There are usually restaurants and bars on a ferry, but they can be overpriced and not so nice. If possible it may be worth bringing a meal with you in a plastic container so you can have a hearty, cheap dinner. You will likely be buying breakfast on the boat, so you will appreciate having one home-cooked meal.

Traveling is an amazing thing to experience—you end up meeting so many people and seeing and trying so many new things. Many people have their own routines and practices they like to stick to while traveling to help them make the most out of it. A common phenomenon while traveling is spontaneity, and people either love or hate being spontaneous. Here are some of the good and bad sides to being spontaneous while traveling.

You Can Feel Free

There is something so invigorating about not having much of a plan and just going with the flow. You can feel a sense of freedom that is hard to achieve when everything is planned out and you are following a schedule.

It Can Be Stressful

As exhilarating as that free feeling is, it’s also exhausting at times and can lead to some stressful situations. If you don’t have a solid plan for where you will be sleeping that night then the uncertainty can start to feel very unenjoyable as the day goes on.

You May Experience More New Things

Living spontaneously while traveling will likely open more doors for you, in terms of the people you meet and the things you get involved in. Having more of a plan will often keep you stuck in your path.

It May Cost You More

Leaving things to the last minute may be fun, but it can mean you end up paying more for transport and accommodation.

There are so many different ways to make traveling work for you. Whatever your goals are, there are different options in terms of transport and accommodation to make it possible for a range of budgets and timeframes. A popular choice currently is to stay with a host in return for doing some work with them. Workaway is a site that connects hosts and travelers to enable this exchange to happen. Here’s why it’s such a good choice for traveling.

Meet People

Going to stay with people and working on their projects together is a really lovely way to get to know them. They will really appreciate your help on whatever they are working on, and you can enjoy chatting in the evenings over a shared meal or heading out for a walk together on the free days.

Save Money

There are different setups with Workaway, where you either get free accommodation for a certain number of hours, or food as well for more hours. Either way, this is a great way to save on costs. You will have some days totally free while there so you can explore the area in your free time.

Learn Skills

Workaway is a great way to learn more about practical tasks and to gain some skills. Whether it’s in animal care, gardening, or construction, you will undoubtedly come away from your stay with some new knowledge.

Here are some exciting places to head for to enjoy this activity.

Cuckmere River, Sussex

This gorgeous winding river runs through beautiful flat grasslands with rolling hills surrounding either side. Wherever you start upriver, if you follow it to the end you’ll reach Cuckmere Haven. This charming beach is great for swimming or relaxing and has great views of the iconic Seven Sisters chalk cliffs.

Steps Bridge, Devon

The babbling River Teign starts on Dartmoor and winds its way through a wooded valley. If you start from the lovely old Steps Bridge, then you can walk upriver through some outstanding deciduous temperate rainforest with glimpses of the rushing river through the luscious trees.

College Valley, Northumberland
